French Phonics Anchor Chart Ideas: list of ideas for anchor charts to teach French sounds.

French Phonics Anchor Charts

Anchor charts should be created along with students so that they can contribute their ideas. Their input is what makes anchor charts so useful in the classroom. Students remember the content of anchor charts because they helped make them.

Here are some ideas for French phonics anchor charts.

I hope you can find some useful inspiration to bring anchor charts into your French classroom!

List of words that include a sound

French Phonics Anchor Charts Ideas: list of words that include a sound. Le son OU

If you have the sound of the week, you might want to create an anchor chart with words that include the sound.

You can start by having students brainstorm words that they already know. Then, as the week progresses and they learn new words, they can add to the list.

As you can see, I’ve used a clipart to illustrate the chart. You could use your own drawings, of course.

Contrasting the different pronunciations of a letter

French Phonics Anchor Charts Ideas: list of words that include the soft C and the hard C. Le C dur et le C doux.

Use this to contrast the different pronunciations that a letter or group of letters might have, like c dur/doux, g dur/doux, er ouvert/fermé, etc.

If there are rules for the pronunciation, be sure to include them in the chart as well.

Contrasting the different spellings of a sound

French Phonics Anchor Charts Ideas: contrasting the different spellings of the sound /o/. Les sons O, AU et EAU.

Now, here’s the opposite of the previous chart because we’re focusing on one sound, but presenting the different ways it can be written.

You can use for o/au/eau, on/om, ai/ei/et, for example.

Choose words/illustrations that are very familiar to your students to be representative of the sound/spelling (phoneme/grapheme).

A quick visual reference

French Phonics Anchor Charts Ideas: a quick reference visual for R-blends in French.

Sometimes, you just need a quick reference chart, like this French r-blends anchor chart.

Great for l-blends, and vowels.
