How can you integrate vocabulary review, writing practice, fine motor activities, and Science into one activity? There might be many ways, but one of the most fun and engaging is certainly this French winter lapbook.

Lapbook d'hiver – French winter lapbook: writing prompts, vocabulary matching, interactive foldable activities, and more!

Lapbook d’hiver – French Winter Lapbook

All the activities in this lapbook don’t have to be done on one day. It all depends on the age of your students and how much they can do.

You can choose to do the tasks on the same day or a little bit a day during a week.

This is what the completed “lapbook d’hiver” should look like. I recommend putting together a sample lapbook first so that your students can visualize what they’re supposed to do.

This is a vocabulary matching activity. Students need to match the name of each piece of clothing to the right picture. They glue the word next to the picture to create cards and keep them in this pocket.

Students will practice reading short sentences while learning more about squirrels and crows. They sort out the facts and glue the tabs “around” the right animal.

Students write on these interactive foldable flaps what they have learned about hibernation. It can as little as a couple of words to complete sentences describing what hibernation is, what animals do before hibernating, and more.

The other two activities are writing prompts:

  • “Le bonhomme de neige dit…” – kids are supposed to fill in a speech bubble with something a snowman would say
  • “Le parc en hiver” – a mini-book with pictures that will get your students writing a short narrative.

Everything comes in B&W and color.
