French Summer Lapbook: Interactive Activities
Looking for a fun activity with a summer theme? Check out this French Summer Lapbook.
French Summer Lapbook
You and your students will love this summer lapbook because it:
1. helps practice or review key summer vocabulary, e.g. ocean animals.
2. provides opportunities for using the vocabulary in writing by responding to the writing prompts included.
There are five different activities in this lapbook:
- two foldable mini-books: “Les animaux de la mer” (one book for feminine nouns and another book for masculine nouns). There are three versions of each mini-book so you can differentiate your instruction.
- drawing and writing prompt: “Mes photos de vacances”. If you’re using this BEFORE summer vacation, have students write/draw about their ideal or planned vacation.
- writing prompt flip book: “La plage en été”. There are two versions of this flip book: one with pre-selected illustrations and another one that allows students to choose their own images (included in the file). This is a great exercise for sequencing and story-telling.
- interactive match-up: students will be matching nouns to illustrations. The mini-cards they create will then be kept in a pocket for future reference.
- writing prompt: “Le surveillant de baignade dit:…” What would a lifeguard be saying? This is what students have to think and write about.

French Summer Printables
Here are a couple of French summer printables: French Summer Worksheets (color & read) and French Summer Sentence Builders. Oh, and at the end of the post, there’s a fun beach vocabulary quiz on Slideshare!
1. French Summer Printables: Sentence Builders
These “phrases mêlées” can be used in two steps because all the sentences are questions! After unscrambling the sentences, students can answer the questions, either in writing or in speaking. In my classroom, I would get them to do both. First, I’d randomly select some students to answer the questions. Then, I’d have them work in pairs asking each other the same questions and writing down the partner’s answers.
Father’s Day French Resources
Here are a couple of Father’s Day French resources for you and a fun and useful Slideshare about “la fête des pères”.
1. Father’s Day French Resources: Sentence Builders
Not only are these “phrases mêlées” fun to unscramble, but they’ll also get your students practicing questions!
Every sentence is in fact a question, so you’ll be making students work extra hard: figuring out the right order of words AND answering questions.
Lapbook pour la fête des mères – Mother’s Day Lapbook
Do you celebrate Mother’s Day in your classroom?
It’s become a bit controversial, hasn’t it?
Some teachers are against celebrating Mother’s Day because it makes motherless kids feel bad. Other teachers feel that celebrating it is important because mothers actually end up complaining for not getting cards or something similar.
Where do you stand?
