French Resources for Diwali
Diwali (also Divali or Deepavali) is a major religious festival and India’s most important holiday.
It celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, which is why the celebration involves lamps, fireworks, etc., making it the “Festival of Lights”.
Teaching about Diwali to your French students allows you to bring cultural awareness into the classroom.
It also gives you the opportunity to work with many vocabulary words around the theme.
The three resources below are great as complements or extensions to a lesson you’re teaching about Diwali.
1. French Diwali One-sheet No-cut Fun Activity Minibook
First up in this list of French resources for Diwali is a printable minibook with fun activities your kiddos will love!
There’s a word search for them to work with vocabulary words related to the celebration.
Next, there’s a fill-in-the-blanks activity using the words from the word search so you students can work with reading comprehension.
And then there are 2 questions for them to answer about Diwali in French.

Now, to make your teaching life easier, this minibook is completely no-prep!
What does that mean?
It means that ALL you have to do is print the pages and you’re ready to assign the activity.
For students, it’s also super simple because they just need to fold the sheet of paper twice to “create” the minibook.
They don’t even have to cut anything. So, no scissors involded!

3. French Diwali Color by Sound Worksheets for Phonics Practice
This isn’t a resource about Diwali, but it’s related to it.
Students will be coloring by code to work on French phonics, so the goal is to improve the recognition of French sounds in words.
Now, where does Diwali come in?
In the secret images that students will find out by coloring the pieces.

For example, in the image above, the code at the top of the image tells students to color all the words that include the sound “ON” orange. So, they’ll have to locate words such as “monde”, “rond”, “ton”, “bonté”, etc. on the sheet and color them orange.
They keep following the code until all the image is colored to reveal the image of a rangoli.
This set of printable worksheets is no-prep (just print and go!) and allows you to integrate phonics and the celebration of Diwali.
You can purchase the individual Diwali Color by Sound set…
